We're truly appreciative of not only the academic learning but the broader community at Dalton. I can probably give you 10 examples from just the last week when a teacher, student, parent, sibling - gave me pause and reminded me how lucky we are to be a part of it. It never hurts to say it again, so, so, so happy that our boys are at Dalton!
I recently had an opportunity to observe my eldest child during class time and it was very powerful. First, I could really see the benefit of the low student to teacher ratio as kids have more frequent individual attention from the teachers. Second, the kids were all very task focused, there was a great buzz of industriousness and a sense of teamwork in the room. Third, I heard my child having conversations with friends in a language not spoken in our home, it was a very special moment!
Following on from Friday’s parent teacher conference I would like to thank you and your staff for making (our Son’s) first year in Canada a successful one. The skill and professionalism of Dalton School has helped (our son) transition from a confused toddler in a new and very different environment, to a confident young boy. The warmth, enthusiasm and the level of engagement shown by your staff clearly showed to me that they really care about the children and the job they are doing. This again reinforces our decision that we made the right choice in selecting Dalton for (our son).
I just want to let you know that my two kids loved the first day of camp! They dragged their feet walking in (somehow Mandarin camp was not the first thing they had in mind for March break...), but they both walked out showing more enthusiasm about the culture and the language. They loved the stories, the crafts, the gym, and the outdoor time. They are eager to go back!
(Our child) has completed her fourth year at Dalton!! While private school was not at all on the radar for us, we could not resist the appeal or having our children acquire a second language we feel will prepare them for global opportunities. We are so glad to have three children attending Dalton, and we have been thrilled with Dalton’s Mandarin and English programs.
Just wanted to let you know that both (our daughters) LOVED the camp! They were mad that I came to pick them up at 3:30 for dance and asked to stay all the way til six for the rest of the days. Well done!
We would never be in China right now if it wasn't for Dalton! #besttripever
My parents were talking to me about the boys' Chinese - not just ability to speak but breadth and scholarly/sophisticated choice of vocabulary taught - they're super impressed. For native speakers, it is very easy to gauge someone's level of education based on their colloquial vocabulary. I would liken written Chinese to Shakespearean English and spoken to modern day English - very different sentence formations and vocabulary. It's very obvious to native Chinese speakers. Anyhow, they're also impressed that the teachers are not just teaching language but also culture and history incorporated. Mandy and Dong Fang are both real gems. I'm going to tell them myself on Monday.
Given that Dalton is dual language I think we had really expected the curriculum to only meet grade requirements, but we have been very pleasantly surprised to see them working beyond grade level oftentimes!
